Abstract

Inpatient rehabilitation at an advanced level offers the patient a multimodal program of therapeutic treatment. At all lev-els of treatment, specialists from many disciplines are brought to-gether to help patients progress. Through a collaborative approach, each team focuses on helping patients meet their individual goals. Psychotherapy plays an indispensable role in such a modern rehabilitation setting. At the onset of the paper, a summary of the re-cent development and significance of inpatient rehabilitation is given. As a rehabilitation process continues, information is generated by professionals diagnosing and treating patients on a con-tinual level. In this paper, a model is conceptualized as a synopsis of this information acquired during the rehabilitation process. Some benefits as well as pitfalls of such a model are mentioned. A case example shows the complex interactions of interdisciplinary team work and demonstrates the importance of providing compre-hensive biopsychosocial psychotherapy in rehabilitation.

Keywords Psychotherapy in rehabilitation; integrative model; interdisciplinary cooperation; somatic illness in rehabilitation; salu-togenetic perspective.
