Abstract

A case study is presented to illustrate those aspects which are significant for psychotherapeutic interventions in a hospital setting. The referring medical system, patients and psychotherapists have to agree on a common goal, which is a prerequisite to be able to assess transference and countertransference processes and acknowledge them in the course of one's work in such a way that they do not prevent the therapeutic success. As well the example demonstrates the eminent significance of the relatives and the necessity to offer psychotherapeutic help to them as well. Treatment success should be evaluated by the improved functioning of psychic processes as well as an improvement in bodily functions.
