Writing about clients

Abstract

I discuss some typical aspects which must be observed when writing about clients. This is especially important when you write for a bigger public: the collecting of important data and scenes can have an impact on the general attitude of the therapist and can cause difficult ties in the relationship to the client. The client can realise this change. A very important question is the commitment with the client. If publication is made without this commitment, this can result in discomfort and sense of guilt on the therapist's side. Important is the anonymity which can be integrated with or without the client's permission. Is there a commitment with the client, this results in a trustful solidarity between the two. This often leads to a deeper working relationship. This is different from a situation when writing about a client is part of a professional community to which the client has no contact.

Key words:
Anonymity; Commitment; Distrust; Betrayal; Working alliance; Diagnoses; Counter transferance.
