How far can the biopsychosocial model of man explain psychotherapeutic approaches?
Abstract
The biopsychosocial model integrates various results of natural and social sciences and the humanities for an explanation of psychic disturbances. It may intriguingly show interactions between different fields of knowledge - however, it cannot be formulated without contradictions due to principal reasons, as there is no metalanguage to integrate natural facts and subjective experiences. Therapeutic approaches find themselves in an area of conflict between different fields of knowledge - integrating evidence-based facts into a system of meanings based on therapeutic experience. Philosophy and hermeneutic approaches cannot be left out of the basic requirements for psychotherapy. Keywords Biopsychosocial model; developmental psychiatry; Hermeneutics; Therapeutic guidelines; Psychotherapeutic practice
