“It’s because women are so emotional …”: the feminizing the profession of psychotherapist
Abstract
On the basis of the fact that fewer and fewer men are choosing psychotherapy as a profession, consideration has been given to the causes and consequences of this fact. As there is very little “hard” data, we can only hypothesize as to the reasons. Both biological and sociological and gender aspects are considered. These aspects can be used with a view to establishing the motives behind a career choice and in addition looking into the possible consequences of the feminizing of this profession.
Keywords: Gender problematic, recognition of the profession of therapist, comparison between therapy schools, therapists’ world view, female patient–female therapist dyad, therapeutic communityPublished
