Psychosomatics – conceptual and psychotherapeutic aspects
Abstract
In order to deal with the therapeutic difficulties when working with psychosomatic (somatoform) patients, explanatory models which deal with the development of typical dysfunctional attitudes ofthe patients are discussed. These can contribute to the development of a therapeutic stance, which does not convey to the patients the idea of “healing” but rather makes it possible for them to take a competent, responsible and less dysfunctional and selfdamaging relationship to their problem. Keywords Psychosomatics; Somatoform disturbance; Psychotherapy; Therapeutic approach; Psychosomatic explanatory models.
