Psychodrama as dialectic method

Abstract

Dialectic subcutaneously builds the central theme in theory and practice of psychodrama; however, neither Moreno’s writings nor secondary literature are explicitly responsive. For example, Moreno explains sociometry by using 19th century materialistic dialectic without expatiating when writing the the forces attraction and repulsion being effective in social relationships would be subject to elemental laws, similar to chemical and biological processes. Moreno builds a self-contained philosophy from the social atom to the universe which - similar to Hegel’s world spirit -results in a “therapeutic world order”. By using his “theory ofgod”, Moreno blends the smallest matter with the whole, the beginning with the end: In the end, God, creative spark and source of all existence, reconnects with himself as creativity released in men.
