The relationship between research and practice in psychotherapy
Abstract
We are discussing the following questions: May the existing cognitive “maps” be used as guides by psychotherapists! To what extent is a large part of the present research in psychotherapy still influenced by a view of the world dating from the 19th century! Modern natural sciences have indeed long given up the idea that the observer does not influence the process of acquisition of knowledge. Yet mainstream research in psychotherapy is still attempting to draw an “objective” picture of its object. What is more, when the objective is to study “living arganisms” - among other things developments based on inner farces and interactive processes - the modern systemic approach used in physics and chemistry is more adequate than same of the psychotherapeutic research.
