Preverbal interaction: Videomicroanalysis as basis for new concepts in body psychotherapy
Abstract
Contemporary baby and infant research is contributing to an ever greater extent to the discussion of theories and methods within the dialogue of schools of psychotherapy. Its value lies in the generation of hypotheses, and it helps us to elaborate a concept of babies and adults that is in keeping with scientific facts. It may break new theoretical ground for body psychotherapies. The present contribution contains a number of proposals to this effect, with theoretical considerations being illustrated by commented video footage of a 13-months old boy and his mother. The significance of such early interaction, which is in essence a physical dialogue, will in future help re-determine the importance of the physical in any type of psychotherapy.
