Symbolic meaning of bodily symptoms. Treatment of psychogenic movement diseases with concentrative Movement Therapy (KBT)
Abstract
Treatment of patients with psychogenic movement disorders in inpatient units needs a multimodal approach. Here the part of Concentrative Movement Therapy (KBT) in the treatment is described. Symptoms of the body are conceptualized as symbolic expression of unconscious conflicts, structural restraints or post traumatic symptoms. The mixture and overlay ofthese three patho-genic factors is shown in a detailed case study concerning a patient with a psychogenic walking disorder. An individual-oriented con-cept of body-psychotherapeutic treatment is introduced. Keywords Psychogenic movement disorders; concentrative movement therapy; symbolisation
