Experiences from the “Psychotherapeutisches Propädeutikum”
Abstract
In 1997 an evaluation of 10 of the then 13 "Psychotherapeutische Propadeutika", the first part of a two step psychotherapy training took place in cooperation with training institutions. A structured questionnaire was sent out to trainees, graduates, drop outs and trainers. The response rate was between 31% and 47% depending on the group. It was the aim of the project to give a first overview of the educational and demographic data of the trainees, graduates and drop-outs of the programme, to gain information how the programme could be improved and evaluate how far the implementation of the programme is in accordance with the original intentions of the law. The training has a theoretical and a practical part. The practical part allows participants to evaluate their motivation for the training and to enhance their ability for reflection which is explicitly the intention of the law. The theoretical training however intended to give a common theoretical knowledge to trainees coming from a wide variety of occupations seems to be of lesser importance. Furthermore more than a third of the trainees and graduates do not intend to continue their psychotherapy training in the second step.
