Psychotherapy, health, and gender: arguments for a gender-sensitive health-promoting psychotherapy

Abstract

Health, well-being and gender issues are not usually essential parts of the theory and practice of psychotherapy. Successful psychotherapies promote good health, but this effect could be improved by taking into consideration the theories and research results of health sciences.

By describing some exemplary research results concerning the relationship between gender and health, and sex and gender in psychotherapy it is illustrated which basic command of health and gender psychotherapists should have who want to promote health and gender equality.
