Internet, counseling, and psychotherapy: a just timely survey
Abstract
A survey of the rapid development of the Internet since 1957 evidences dynamics and patterns of distribution. Shifts of access rates with respect to gender, age groups, and income groups are described. Against the background of the position of the Internet within the media, criteria for media choice bring about questions of Internet applications in psychotherapy and counseling. The Austrian “Internetrichtlinie" (Internet guideline) appears as a problematic regulation effort. The huge amount of multiplexed information offered by the Internet and the growing demand for counseling open up new opportunities for psychotherapists which must be put into practice with adequate care. Keywords Internet; Media choice; Communication via Internet; Internet guideline; Counseling
