Socialization and emancipation in sociology
Abstract
Summary: Sociology as a critical science examines the workings of society. It analyses social change as well as the existing societal relations and power structures. Sociologists are interested in the ways that lead up to different life situations and the results of unequal distribution of available resources. Sociology uses demographic premises as a starting point and then gets its orientation from social shares and participation as well as livelihood security. The present contribution substantiates sociological analyses of the current processes of individualisation, insecurity and flexibility and its reaction to the financial-driven politics that have dominated since the end of the 1980s. The high rate of depressive disorders was used as an indicator. The aim was, with thorough analysis, to contribute to the advancement of emancipatory socialization and so improve the social situation of the disadvantaged.
Keywords: sociology, socialization, social change, social inequality, individuality, insecurity, flexibility, mental illness, emancipation.
