The feeling of not belonging to one’s birth sex is not new; as a phenomenon it can be traced back to ancient mythology. But it was always rare, whereas recently there has been a sharp increase in gender identity deviations, especially among adolescents. The text explores the extent to which this development is a result of cultural and, above all, media-technological upheavals, which cause young people to believe they are in the «wrong gender» and, in extreme cases, to strive for transition. The most important cornerstones of the planned Self-Identification law are presented, which are however unlikely to do justice to the underlying problems. In conclusion, the text addresses a number of open questions in this regard and attempts initial answers.Downloads
