Researching Psychotherapy: Current Status and Future Themes
Abstract
Summary: Our paper summarizes important research activities in the context of psychotherapy research that proved psychotherapy to be an effective intervention (not limited to any particular psychotherapeutic school) for mental disorders and mental concerns in the course of somatic diseases. Nevertheless, there are open research questions, such as the following. What are the mechanisms of action of psychotherapeutic interventions and how they can be researched? For whom is which kind of therapy effective? Which unfavorable side effects are to be expected and how should we handle them. These research questions are discussed in the context of current research literature. Keywords: Psychotherapy, efficacy, predictors, power factors, mechanisms of action, specific techniques, side effects, unwanted therapy effectsPublished
