Soma and Psyche as Mirror of the Human Image

Disease concepts and diagnoses always reflect the state of knowledge and the conception of man as a human being during a respective era. The distinction between psyche and soma dates back to antiquity and served as the prerequisite for the division of medicine into somatic disciplines and psychiatry/psychotherapy. Psychosomatics and body psychotherapy are striving to overcome the psyche-soma dualism. With the help of interventions, integrative body psychotherapy (IBP) explores and interlinks the experiential dimensions of the physical, emotional and cognitive and utilises the functional unity of such processes. In addition to interventions that treat the body directly, changes in the experience of emotions or integration of cognitive processes in psychosomatic disorders may also indirectly influence the body experience.Downloads
