Quality assurance in advanced education in psychotherapy: Results of periodic examination of the members of the Swiss Charter for Psychotherapy
Abstract
The Swiss Charta for Psychotherapy has over the course of many years pursued the advancement of high qualitative standards for further education in the field of psychotherapy, of ethics in professional and continuing education and scientific viability. As a method for ensuring quality, the Commission reviews the quality assurance of all members in terms their maintenance of norms and implementation of the ongoing decisions taken at the annual general meetings. Such a contribution is the comparative survey of the results described; these were compared to the findings of the first two reviews six and twelve years ago, and demonstrate that the Charta Institutions have generally observed all that they committed to. This reliability makes the Charta an important partner in the legislative process with the Cantons and the Federation. The method outlined whose strength lies in direct communication between the assessors and the representatives from the Institutions, is as before, well accepted and is suitable for setting impulses for further quality improvement. As a result the institutions providing advanced education in psychotherapy have developed a conceptual framework of quality elements, which are in line with those required for the proper Federal accreditation of psychotherapy-advanced education. A further outcome is the practice of a culture of communication.
